Finisterre Capital was founded in London in 2002 as a specialist Emerging Markets Debt (EMD) investment manager and was acquired by Principal Global Investors in July 2011.
Finisterre Capital (Finisterre), is an internal investment management group and trading name of Principal Global Investors (Europe) Limited.
Having focused primarily on running hedge fund strategies, we launched our long-biased total return strategy in May 2013 in response to our perceived client demand to adapt our active Hedge-Fund management skills to a regulated, long-biased EMD strategy.
Our aim was to provide our clients with a single ‘go anywhere’ EMD strategy, able to deliver performance in most market conditions.
The arrival of Damien Buchet, as CIO of the Finisterre EMD Total Return franchise, helped to further enhance the strategy through the addition of an innovative portfolio risk allocation concept, which relies on a quantitative categorization of the EMD investment universe making sense of each asset’s yield, volatility and liquidity profile.
While the investment team operates with full strategic and day-to-day investment autonomy, this structure provides Finisterre with access to EMD research across Principal, ownership stability and access to central resources, such as Principal’s global distribution network, HR, and technology services.
Principal Global Investors (Europe) Limited fully acquired Finisterre Capital on 1 January 2021 by way of business transfer.
Principal was founded in 1879 with the vision of helping people progress toward financial security and is a member of Fortune 500®; Nasdaq-listed (“PFG”)
